| QUESTION: Why do I need to register the business name? |
| TOPIC: Regulatory Requirements |
| ANSWER |
|
Under the province's Business Names Act, a business name registration is required if the sole proprietor is planning to operate under a name other than the owner's name (For example, instead of operating as Jane Doe, she would rather be recognized as Jane Doe Technological Services). This also holds true in the case of partnerships. It is only upon registration that the business names can be used legally in the province of Ontario.
